What is your wardrobe mission statement? — Avance Organizing
What is your wardrobe mission statement?
Most closet projects fail at the same place. Not at the sorting, not at the discarding, not at the storage. They fail at the question that ought to come first: what is this wardrobe for?
Before you handle a single hanger, write a sentence — a real sentence, on paper — that describes the life this wardrobe is meant to support. Not the life you had three years ago. Not a life you imagine for some other woman. The actual life of your weeks: the meetings you take, the dinners you attend, the long Saturdays at the park, the seasons you actually live in.
When the sentence is honest, the closet sorts itself. The pieces that answer the sentence stay. The pieces that don’t, quietly let themselves go. The middle category — the maybes — shrinks dramatically, because the sentence is doing the deciding for you.
A wardrobe mission statement is a small, almost embarrassing piece of writing. It is also the most efficient organizing tool I know.
